Recently I broke the news of CMTE’s demise
over at XDA Developers. Predicting the news weeks prior to the announcement, many CMTE themers advanced into Substratum. After bringing to you sneak peeks of Deep Darkness and Coalfield, it’s time for GRVY.
Perfecting the art of mashing retro and urban styles together, GRVY leaves a bold impression. The tall, bold and gray-scale font compliments the look of the theme as a whole.
Current State: Almost every single app has been themed with certain apps with hard-coded colours serving as exceptions. The theme is a work in progress and will be released as soon as possible. Jacek is as excited as we are for the release of GRVY.
Now that’s GRVY has moved over to Substratum, there’s gotta be something new. In addition to the singular dark background and a limited number of accents, Jacek has added support for multiple backgrounds and accents.
The notification bar is omnipresent across the Android System, which is common knowledge. With GRVY, the notification bar does a pretty good job in getting the bold message across to the user. The icons are modern yet retro. The singlets present in every icon come together to make a beautiful notification bar.
The icons present on the notification bar are obviously carried on to the Quick Settings Panel. I am currently running Resurrection Remix and it houses a plethora of Quick Settings. Just to test the limitations of GRVY, I applied all of them into the main panel. There wasn’t an icon unthemed and every icon was under the same style. The panel looked really good as a whole. The navbar looks identical to the one that shipped with the CMTE variant.
As everything from the native Android Ecosystem to third party themes are moving towards minimalism, we need a change and I believe GRVY is that change. There’s nothing minim about GRVY, it’s just bold, “in-your-face,” retro and modern. All at the same time. It’s a pretty good deal, I would say.
