This month has proven to be pretty exciting as the announcements for the arrival of various new themes were made. Joining the Substratum family this time round is PitchBlack Origins. The theme is now live on the Play Store!
PitchBlack is a widely-known dark material theme perfecting the balance between materialism, minimalism and various color combinations. I’m sure the average Android enthusiast is familiar with the theme already.
Considering the demise of the CyanogenMod Theme Engine, Altan KRK (the person designing PitchBlack) decided to move towards Substratum. The theme has been renamed from “PitchBlack” to “PitchBlack Origins” containing over 25 unique accents to chose from
Also, the theme overwrites the default (or stock, if you may) animations of the Android System. Moreover, here are five different custom animation styles to chose from. In addition to shipping the PitchBlack boot animation, Altan decided to include the regular PB Font and a Substratum exclusive PB|EXO2 font.
ThemeSets: A unified platform
As most of the applications and themes have beta-testing grounds before the public release, PitchBlack has one too. Altan updated the theme with a theming system unique in every way recently, and the beta testers were taken by surprise.
Not only will the way people apply and perceive theme before application change, but the ease of use will also increase abundantly too. Altan KRK, the designer of themes like Material Neptune and numerous variations of PB for CMTE, decided to introduce “theme sets.”
Theme sets are a combination of a standard background image followed by a variable color variant. A “set” is defined by placing the name of the environment before the name of the accent. Although we already are familiar with having to face the choice of a background and accent seperately, getting used to sets won’t be a hassle at all.
We would like to thank the substratum team for the recent update includes the visual representation of color variants. A user can now easily guess what the device (after the application of a set) would look like.
As for the unified theme platform, Altan KRK has decided to include all of the CMTE themes he’s ever published as different “sets” into “PitchBlack | Origins.”
If you’ve made it this far, I’m sure you’re as excited as I am for the release of the theme. Also, it is natural to have some questions stirring up in your head after reading the above. Use the comments section to the fullest!*
